August 7, 2014
Salt Lake Comic Con is still announcing guests for September 2014. The star-studded event is bringing in the big guns. Here are the next 7 Disney movies on Netflix that you should see in preparation for Salt Lake Comic Con 2014. The virtues of Who Framed Roger Rabbit have already been extolled in a previous post, but it is still the best film available on Netflix. Christopher Lloyd plays the bad guy. Disney’s Hecules is better than any of the recent films about the Greek demi-god. Featuring the uber-cool Meg working with the used car salesman Hades voiced by James Woods, this animated tale is full of fun and wit. One of Hades henchmen Panic is voiced by Matt Frewer. If you do not have the time to binge watch Hercules: The Legendary Journeys with Kevin Sorbo, this provides a good way to see the legend come to life. Mulan retells the story of a Chinese girl who takes the place of her father in the Chinese army. It features the vocal work of Utah favorite Donny Osmond and Salt Lake Comic Con guest James Hong. Eddie Murphy’ comic styling as Mushu made the film more entertaining or annoying, depending on the viewer’s opinion of Murphy. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids featured ground breaking special effects for its time. The film inspired sequels and two theme park attractions. Frewer has a role in this Disney live action comedy about kids who are shrunk and must find a way to get larger. The Emperor’s New Groove features Patrick Warburton as Kronk, whose character was so good, he got his own sequel. For those who do not like traditional Disney animation, Emperor provide welcome relief from musicals and went for the comedy jugular. Warburton has since become a Disney favorite and became the captain for Soarin’ Over California. Kronk’s New Groove makes Warburton’s character the feature of his own movie. Frewer reprises his role as Panic for Mickey’s House of Villains. The Disney villains take over Mickey’s variety show and generally run amok. This straight to video release is worth a view for die hard Disney fans who want to see what kids are being exposed to as Disney attempts to capitalize on its character library.
