Growing up Gigi provides fan's an intimate setting to meet Edgley
“Growing up Gigi” provided a more intimate encounter with the star from Farscape. Those who attended the discussion were invited to move the chairs into a circle where Gigi held court talking about her life.
“I never really fit in anywhere,” says Edgley. “For me, dressing up and playing make believe made sense.” In school, she became the drama captain. Edgley got involved with acting because “I love telling amazing stories.” Edgley graduated from Queensland University of Technology in a program that had 800 applicants with only 12 people chosen. She was one of seven to finish the program in her graduating class. “When I did Farscape, I had no idea what I was doing,” says Edgley. “I knew how to act” but didn’t have any experience in front of the camera other than news reading. “Pilot reminded me of my grandma,” says Edgley. There was just something about his eyes. She was “literally shooting sci-fi in a tin shed and then whisked to Los Angeles” for a convention. Flying business class and taking a limo was a stark contrast to the sci-fi experience. When she got to the con, there was a huge line of people that Edgley thought must have been for Buffy or someone else. “This line is for you Miss Edgley.” She was amazed. “I don’t think we should be putting ideas in people’s heads,” says Edgley about horror films. Other Work and Accolades “Most actors are out of work a lot,” says Edgley. “You can’t have an average 9 to 5 job” because you have to be able to drop everything at a moment’s notice. Edgley started a dog and animal care business with her sister because Edgley loves animals. Gigi got a unicycle gold medal a couple of weeks ago, so she was able to display the medal among all of the awards that her husband has accumulated for his unicycling prowess. Edgley has written a comic book and released music CDs. Family Life Her mom and dad met when he was judging a Princess Australia pageant that she was in. “They’ve always loved each other,” says Edgley, but it has been tumultuous. “Life isn’t always perfect,” but that’s okay. Edgley has inherited parts of her mom and dad. Her mother was always all about pursuing your own bliss and following your passion, and dad was all about working hard, working some more, working until you drop and then working some more. |
