Cafe 24 service and food so good, needs its own Fox TV Show
Café 24, located at the Marina Hotel in San Julian’s, serves up some pretty spectacular food, drinks and service while providing a comfortable café type atmosphere. With a coupon/contest that I received during the Disney concert in Malta, I decided to try the cafe and see what I had won.
The onion ring tower was a perfect appetizer to split three ways. The onion rings were well done, and the dipping sauce was unexpectedly good. It provided the best complement for the flavor of the onion rings while not overpowering them.
The Parmesan Risone was creamy risotto heaven. The texture was perfect, and the flavor burst forth with the sharpness of cheesy goodness. I didn’t even bother to eat the parma ham that was placed on top. The risotto dish was filling enough for two people with small appetites, and good enough that sharing is difficult.
The stars of the meal may have been the non-alcoholic beverages. The hot cocoa was thick like a pudding and chocolaty enough to make satisfy all but the hardest core chocoholics. In spite of its description, the Shirley Temple was exactly what it should be from an American perspective.
If the food was all that I had to rave about, that would be enough to recommend Café 24. However, the service was easily the best that I have had in Malta. Our server was friendly, attentive and knew how to treat her customers. She was personable and exchanged banter in a way that is rare in Malta. She really made our meal twice as good as it was.
The only drawback, if it can be termed as such, was the size of the table. I liked them, but the server said that larger tables were coming. In spite of the small tables, or maybe because of them, the meal with friends was a delight. Café 24 is definitely on my list to visit again – after I try Vinotheque or Da Marina in the Marina Hotel. (In case you were wondering, we won 20 percent off our bill.)
