Star Wars panel at MAlta Comics Expo 2014
On Day 3, Malta Comics Expo 2014 hosted two generations of Star Wars actors. Andrew Lawden was cast in The Phantom Menace as Liam Neeson’s stunt double and as a guard for Princess Amidala. Nick Joseph was in Star Wars: A New Hope as the Medal of Yavin bearer.
“It was a lot of fun,” says Lawden about working on The Phantom Menace.
As the Medal of Yavin bearer, Joseph brought the medal to Malta for the first time ever. Joseph says that Malta needs to organize its own Stormtrooper legion to help the Comics Expo grow.
According to both actors, Germany has the fourth largest Star Wars fan base in the world.
Joseph also worked on The Spy Who Loved Me with Roger Moore. As a prank, Moore poured water on Joseph during the production. Joseph bided his time. When Moore had to shoot a scene with carts for the film, Joseph smeared the seat with mud. Every year, Joseph still gets a Christmas card from Moore with a mud thumbprint.
Joseph says that actors get to work in some good stuff and on some rubbish, but in the end, it’s a paycheck.
