Big Thunder Mountain Railroad returns with a bang
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened after a long overhaul. The tracks look like they have been replaced, and some of the effects in the story have been redone.
The ride itself is a lot smoother than it was, which doesn’t necessarily fit with the theme of a runaway train ride and the wildest ride in the wilderness. While the track provides a nice ride, there are times when the train seems like it is moving slower than it really is.
The effects in the last hill are pretty spectacular. Originally, the story was that the mine was caving in during that climb. Rocks shook, there were explosions, the train made it out as things collapsed down and a vein of gold revealed itself. Those effects were all mechanical, and at some point, they just stopped working.
The new story: A lantern has fallen down and started a fire that has lit several fuses. The train is trying to get out before the explosion. When the dynamite stash does blow, it creates a loud noise and a cloud of smoke and flame that seems to engulf the train.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is otherwise pretty much the same if a little louder. It’s good to have the classic back.
