Fear and Loathing in the United States II
We, and this is inclusive, just don't get it. It's like we're a bunch of 5 year olds on the playground. You apologize! No, you apologize. My daddy is bigger than yours! Well, my daddy can beat your daddy up! I'm not going to reach out to him. I'm not going to reach out to him! He needs to come to me first. I know you are but what am I! I'm rubber you're glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you! You're a poopy pants! No, you're the poopy pants! Smelly Butt! Smelly Butt!
Except we're supposed to be the big people, and we say things like, If you don't like it you can just leave! I don't care what you have to say, the people have spoken! This is Murica! Send her to jail!
Or, he's not my president! I don't have to accept the results of a rigged system! The people's vote hasn't been heard. Impeach him!
We're not talking to each other. At best, we're talking at each other. Hopefully, this will all pass, and we will be able to practice compassion and empathy. However, right now, it looks like the rift is too great and we cannot hear each other from across the divide. And the stupid thing is, both sides are accusing each other of the same thing. Hillary is corrupt. Trump is corrupt. They both have investigations and trials against them. They were both supported by corporations. Hillary and Trump were both leaked debate questions.
I don’t even know anymore what the proper response is. 55% of democrats said that they feared Trump. 49% of Republicans said that they feared Hillary. People in the streets are afraid of having their lives torn apart because Trump has said that he would work to deport people, to overturn rights of abortion and rights to marriage. This is the same fear that gun owners would’ve felt if Hillary were elected and said she was going to take their guns. And it is all over issues that the government shouldn’t be involved in.
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. (You know the song.)
Is any of this being accomplished by our current and future government? I suppose one side could argue that the first 2 are being reestablished, and the other side would argue against it. The budget of the Defense Department would have some bearing on the common defence, but the other stuff has been thrown in the crapper.
Just because your man won, doesn’t mean that you get to oppress people. That goes against freedom. There are more amendments to the Constitution than the 2nd. Protesting peacefully is a part of a strong democracy. If that means blocking the streets, being late for work, whatever, as long as it is done peacefully. None of your people rallied around Obama when he became president why would you expect liberals to do the same? It was 8 years of birther crisis and Obama is tearing us apart and bad for business, even if the Dow was at an all-time high. If you truly fought for freedom, then continue to do so, not just for those who think, look and act like you. Make sure that the extremists who are hijacking your victory are kept in check and not hurting people.
Protestors, yo, practice what you preach. If you want a better world, you have to work for it, not fight for it. Your woman lost. It doesn’t mean you get to go out and start fires and destroy property, public or private. In fact, you should practice what you preach. If you believe she is so much better than he is, take the high road, figure out how to work within the system, protect each other from the extremists who are using his election as an excuse to vent their anger against an inherently corrupt and unjust system on, and get your protest on in a peaceful way – in the way that would make MLK Jr and Gandhi would be proud.
Both sides are at fault. Neither side is listening nor do their actions correlate with what they supposedly believe. If Trump can’t bring us together, we have to pull on our big person britches and bring ourselves together. America used to be great because of our differences. To make America great again, we are going to have to see our similarities and embrace our differences, and lovingly leave each other the ---- alone. Seriously, if someone else’s actions don’t affect you or someone who cannot defend him or herself (AND THEY MOSTLY DON’T), keep your mouth shut.
