Originality as Success
If originality were our measure of success, wouldn’t we all be successful? But why would we even consider originality as a measure of success? In theory, the U.S. has considered individuality valuable. In order to be an individual, one must differentiate one’s self from the masses. One must be an original.
How can we be original with almost six billion people living now and the many that lived before us? Are humans like snowflakes, in that no two are alike, thus making our existence successful? Or do we have to do more to be original?
When does originality subvert itself to being one of the crowd?

San Blas
Green island
Swathed in moisture
Beautiful to the eye
Hot to the touch
The constant cry –
“Money, money, money”
Why does greed exist
amidst such splendor?

Smooth silver
Gleaming in the spotlight
Sweet, haunting melodies
Can’t escape
His face in my dreams
That liquid brown stare
If only…
