Disneyland projects attraction upgrades, 2015
The Haunted Mansion
The newest visible resident at the Haunted Mansion is the reconjured Hatbox Ghost. Featured just after the Black Widow bride in the attic, Hatbox flashes by so quickly that if you blink, you just might miss him and his effect. Fans should get into their Doombuggy first if they are traveling with those who are still embodied.
Since the Haunted Mansion still has only 999 happy haunts, it can be surmised that Hatbox has been resisting the call of Madame Leota for several years after appearing in a successful ad campaign and a disappointing first incarnation. Hatbox is better than ever now because he is using an (astral?) projection system that makes the loss of his head more realistic than a physical presence could achieve.
Brought back for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary, the Hatbox Ghost should take up permanent residence somewhere else in the mansion with a newly fleshed out story of his encounter with the bride.
Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters
It appears that Disney has upgraded Buzz Lightyear’s energy beam in the finale of the Astro Blasters attraction. The beam has a couple of different modes and lights up the space between Zurg and Buzz. It is possible that this effect has existed before, but this is the first time that I noticed it.
Peter Pan’s Flight
Tinkerbell makes here first appearance in the Darling nursery with the Darling children and Nana the St. Bernard. She flies along the wall and out the window with pixie dust trailing behind her. Peter Pan and the Darlings fly out over London and land on Big Ben while the second star to the right takes on an aurora all of its own in spectacular brilliance. The new enhancements to this flight make it even better than before, expect lines to continue to be long at what is arguably Fantasyland’s most popular attraction.
