Malta National Aquarium sparkles like the gem it is
There are several things in Malta that get a pass because of their location. Other countries have something bigger or better to offer, but other countries aren’t in the middle of the Mediterranean with great weather and awesome beach opportunities. However, the Malta National Aquarium could easily hold its own in any other country.
The exhibits are well built and clean. The fish are active and interesting, and even the video is professional produced. Everything about the Malta National Aquarium is well done. If they cut corners to build it, it doesn’t show. Even the gift shop is first rate, and the aquarium offers a photo opportunity at the beginning of the tour that makes for a good souvenir on its own. The staff is friendly and willing to accommodate reasonable requests. They even suggested redoing the photos if we wanted.
The fish, however are the real draw. Clown Fish and Dories are popular with the Finding Nemo set. The shrimp are varied in color and include some see through Ghost Shrimp. There are rays, small sharks and moray eels. The walk under aquarium and the scoot through area are well-lit and beautiful.
The Malta National Aquarium may not be a hidden jewel, but it certainly sparkles like one. Located near St. Paul’s Bay, there is no reason why anyone should miss this educational and well done spot. For those who love to look at fish, this is a can’t miss attraction.
