INsightful, Entertaining and Spot on
A must read for every Disney Fan and Epcot visitor
‘The Thinking Fan’s Guide to Walt Disney World: Epcot’ is amazingly well written and well thought out. Aaron Wallace is both insightful and knowledgeable about his subject matter, which includes more than just the theme parks. As he breaks down and analyzes each attraction within its own context and history, he also links it to the outer world and what the attractions might men for and about society at large. In doing so, Wallace shares a whole new world with his reader.
The key to Wallace’s writing is that he is a fan of the parks. His criticism is never mean because it comes from a place of respect. He wants the parks to be better than they are, and it is more evident that he wants Epcot to live up to its ambitious goal of improving the planet. When the attractions fall short, Wallace is quick to point out why they don’t work and what might improve them. His 2 best essays are written about the iconic Spaceship Earth and the China Pavilion with its ‘Reflections of China.’ He delves into cultural questions about what the pavilion should address and whether a culture can be seen outside of a government. The Notes in the back of the book, which are an absolute must read, show how much quality research Wallace has done. If you have enjoyed Wallace’s ‘The Thinking Fan’s Guide to Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom,’ you will love this guide to Epcot. Either the subject matter lends itself better to intelligent and comprehensive essays or Wallace has improved as a writer – maybe both. Whatever the case, Wallace’s ‘Thinking Fan’s Guide to Walt Disney World: Epcot’ is a must read for anyone wanting to explore their vacation destination at a deeper level. |
