Team In Training prepares people for athletic events, supports cancer research
From coaching to support, Team In Training provides participants the tools they need to be successful in endurance sports. The program also provides participants the opportunity to participate in an endurance sport for something more than themselves.
“We will find a cure for blood cancer,” says Stacie Kulp, Team In Training campaign manager for the Desert Mountain States Utah office of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Trainees can choose to participate in training for specific marathons, half-marathons, century rides and triathlons. Each participant is expected to raise four times what it costs to go to an event. The raised funds cover transportation, housing, an inspirational dinner and a victory party. For bicycles, it also covers the disassembling, shipping and reassembling of the bike.
The 75 percent of funds left over from a successful fundraiser goes to support the mission of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In Utah, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society funds four research projects at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and provides help for patients.
“The coaches will make sure you are ready for the race – mentally and physically,” says Stacie.
Registration is available for the events online. Teams may meet in person or online. Team In Training is for anyone from beginner to multi-event participant.
