Northwest Comic Fest Continues with two great panels to see again on Sunday
There is still one day left for the Northwest Comic Fest, and that means that people who have missed a couple of amazing panels will get a second chance to see them. Nathan Quarry is inspirational, ad Tinseltown Cartoonists features Disney and other treasures.
Best of the Best
Nathan Quarry’s presentation “From the Cage to the Stage” is an uplifting, motivational hour that the most cynical of people would find joyfully presented and skillfully told. Quarry relays the story of becoming a cage fighter and the two things that drove him into the UFC, where he won his first three fights.
Quarry was a single father who needed to be able to support his daughter. When he lost his job at the construction company, he decided to follow his dream. His dying father provided further inspiration through the outcome of his life. Quarry’s honesty and humility are amazing, and his story is one that people told him he should write. He didn’t want to write a standard autobiography, so he has taken elements from his life and added zombies to the mix.
Quarry will speak again on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Panel Room 3.
For Disney Fans
“Tinseltown Cartoonists: From Hanna-Barbera to Warner Bros., to Disney and Beyond, The Wild and Wooly Careers of Bob Foster and Keith Tucker” is tailor made for fans of Saturday morning cartoons and comic books. The highlight of the presentation is Foster’s own collection of sketches from and photographs of famous people he has met along the way. Disney fans will recognize Roy O. Disney, Carl Barks and Ward Kimball. Foster says this is the first time that he has shown the sketches in public. (There are other artists in the sketchbook that fans of those artists would love to see.)
Tinseltown Cartoonists will be in Panel Room 2 at 1 p.m.
These two panels were really great. People in the Salem area should come out for Quarry’s, and Disney fans really need to get to the Tinseltown Cartoonists because those sketches are priceless. Artist Alley and the vendors downstairs feature local goods catering to the nerd in everyone. Come support these local artists and enjoy a good time watching the people.
