New Orleans Square seems smaller after Club 33 expansion
With the expansion of Club 33, New Orleans Square appears to be much smaller. Gone is the Court of Angels and some of the smaller passages that gave New Orleans Square its depth. In its place is a building that few common people will ever have access to.
Club 33 is the exclusive venue that costs a fortune and is the only place in Disneyland to serve alcoholic beverages. While some tours have visited the original lobby of the club with its French elevator, only members and their guests are allowed upstairs in the dining area. While the expansion was much needed – the waitlist is rumored to be 10 years long – for those who enjoyed the quaintness of a New Orleans that never existed, the land is now smaller.
Another place that has disappeared in the restructuring is the Pin Traders shop in the area. Whether that was for the expansion or a sign that pin trading is coming to an end in its popularity, and thus profitability, is anyone’s guess.
New Orleans Square is still a nice place to visit with its virgin Mint Juleps and Mickey shaped beignets, musical groups like the Royal Street Bachelors, the Blue Bayou and two of the most popular attractions in the park, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. It just got a little smaller with fewer byways that people may not have gone down but now are missed as part of the detail that makes Disneyland special.
