Internal Communication at Walt Disney World
Corporate communications falls into two categories – internal and external. Internally, the company is responsible for communicating with its employees. This may be done through the web, in house publications, phone calls and emails.
In Walt Disney World’s model, they use all of these methods. The Hub not only conveys the latest on corporate information like changes at the parks and closures but also keeps the cast members, what Disney employees are called, informed about their schedule and allows them to make changes.
“Walt Disney World Eyes and Ears” magazine is produced twice a month and contains uplifting stories about the company and its cast members. It also has information about cast member discounts and special events.
Phone calls and emails generally are used for fast information like when the web had misprinted the schedules for the company. Different departments may use emails more often than other forms of communication.
Walt Disney World even has its own internal computer generated television newsletter. The newsletter is put on closed circuit television and broadcast 24 hours a day. It shows the times that the parks are open and delivers information on things that cast members can take advantage of like discounted tickets to football and basketball games or dining at restaurants.
Walt Disney World also produces specific content for its College Program participants (CPs). “The Communicator” is published monthly and includes information about events just for CPs. “Housing the Magic” is a weekly television show that highlights the events of the past only for CPs.
