Top 5 Movies on Netflix to watch in preparation for Salt lake Comic Con 2014
July 24, 2014
Salt Lake Comic Con is still announcing guests for September 2014. The star-studded event is bringing in the big guns. Here are the top 5 movies on Netflix that you should see in preparation for Salt Lake Comic Con 2014. Serenity – Really, the sequel to Firefly should be a gimme. Anyone worth his or her comic con salt should see the series and its movie. It is even more important in Utah because of the presence of Brian Wiser who appeared in the film. When Nathan Fillion gives you a shout out, you know you have made it next to the big time. Wiser produced Done the Impossible: The Fans’ Tale of Firefly and Serenity. Wiser will probably have a booth where you can get him to sign a copy of his documentary (see the review here). Alan Tudyk, who plays Wash, is scheduled to be at Salt Lake Comic Con. Hilarity will ensue. Robin Hood: Men in Tights – Because unlike some other Robin Hoods, he can speak with an English accent. Cary Elwes is beloved for his Westley in the Princess Bride, but it is Brooks’ Men in Tights that is the comedic masterpiece available on Netflix. Who Framed Roger Rabbit – This ground-breaking Disney film is the only film to feature Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny on the same screen at the same time. The negotiations between animation studios required that characters get the same amount of screen time, which often meant pairing up like with like. Think Donald Duck and Daffy Duck with the dueling pianos. Christopher Lloyd plays the sociopath with the voice that can shatter glass who wants to turn Toontown into a highway cloverleaf – “It’ll be beautiful.” Ghostbusters – Who you gonna call? How many other films have left a calling card like the Ghostbusters? Featuring Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, Ivan Reitman and Ernie Hudson, this film was released on the same day as Gremlins. Both did great at the box office, and both have earned iconic status and rumors of sequels and reboots. Big Trouble in Little China – If a film defines cult classic more than this cheesy movie from the 1980s, I haven’t seen it. Big Trouble is a fantasy epic spectacular with Kurt Russell at his cheesy line spewing finest and Kim Cattrall before she hit Sex and the City. James Hong gets to play the bad guy looking for love in all the wrong places as far as Jack Burton is concerned. And you know what Jack Burton would say to that… Another 5 movies to watch on Netflix before Salt Lake Comic Con 2014 7 Disney movies to watch on Netflix before Salt Lake Comic con 2014 |
