What makes people 'Happy'?
“Happy” explores those things that make people the happiest and help them leave the fullest lives: play, new experiences, doing things that are meaningful, appreciating what we have and friends and family.
The movie looks at societies that are rated high in happiness like Denmark and those that are the least happy like modern Japan. While exploring the lives of those who are happy, the connections between them become obvious. They are involved with other people. Those who are least happy are involved with their jobs to excess, denying themselves the pleasure of human contact and of their families. The human being is a social creature. Without interaction, people fade and die. Happy people are more productive and live longer. This is apparent in Okinawa, Japan where more people live past the age of 100 per capita than anywhere else in the world. People are responsible for taking care of each other. The villages interact, and so do the generations. “Happy” gives some good ideas on how to become happier; it is up to the viewer to seek them out, and in that way to become happier. As each person becomes happier, everyone around that person will also feel a lift in their spirits. |
