The best thing about Salt Lake City: City Cakes and Cafe
A locally owned vegan bakery that also makes gluten-free everything sounds pretty great and City Cakes and Cafe is just that. If all they did at “the Cakes” was make delicious pastries that were lighter on the Earth than traditional baked goods, that would be reason enough to go there.
However, what they really did for me was give me my “Cheers,” a place where everybody knows my name. Everyone is friendly and happy to see new people, but there is just something about being a regular that ups the friendly quotient. The cake decorators are top notch. They have prepared some amazing cakes for birthdays and weddings. Food options include vegan mac and cheeze, which can be converted to chili mac, a vegan sausage cheezy wrap and a cheese spinach scone. Try then with chiluly sauce. Supporting local businesses is awesome. When they support you back, it’s even better. If you haven’t found your “Cheers” yet, I recommend giving City Cakes and Café a try. Go a couple, three times, have some coffee and a lemon blueberry scone or cinnamon roll and tell them Shad sent you. City Cakes and Café is located at 1000 S. Main, and open from 8 to 8, Monday through Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday. (Hours subject to change.) Their cupcakes and other pastries can be found at various coffeehouses and select stores throughout Salt Lake City. |
