CBS' brilliant strategy has people losing their minds about 'fee' TV
People are losing their collective minds over having to pay to see Star Trek: Discovery, which is ridiculous. The Internet has bred the idea that people should be able to get everything for free. TV shows, movies, newspaper articles, everything online should be free or should be pirated. The problem is that isn’t how capitalism works. If you want art or a specific genre or quality, you are going to have to pay for it; just watching it isn't enough, even if you don't skip the commercials.
While the artists, actors and writers may only get a pittance, it is the pittance that pays for food and their ability to create. Google ads just don’t cut it when it comes to making a living. Artists, writers, and even TV channels are going to need more than they can make from what Internet advertising brings in, and so far, very few people or organizations have gotten it right.
If you want to see Star Trek: Discovery or anything beyond the everyday dreck that the Internet brings to your screen, you are going to have to pay for it. However, if you want more Star Trek and you don’t want to support CBS, you should try Vic Mignogna’s Star Trek homage – Star Trek Continues. Just remember, you only get to see it because people supported it through Kickstarter and IndieGoGo campaigns. (So think about going to a crowdfunding site like Patreon and supporting your favorite artist, writer or creator.)
