Top 5 animated Disney films that should definitely be live action
Disney is looking to turn their animated properties into live action films. While they are doing an awesome job of presenting these stories in a new and exciting way and Pete’s Dragon was a completely different movie from the original, there are some films that Disney should definitely make into live action. This list will not contain any of the package movies that Disney did because each of them have a number of different stories, and each story may or may not be suitable for a live action adaptation.
5. Mulan – Disney will do a live action Mulan; it’s just a question of when. After all, Pete's Dragon showed they could do a convincing live action dragon.
4. James and the Giant Peach – While this story leaves little wriggle room for added value, and the original is iconic stop motion, it would be interesting to see how Disney rendered the bugs in relation to James. It could very likely look something like the Jungle Book.
3. Treasure Planet – With the crazy cast of characters, this could be a marketers dream for action figures. Of course that would mean making the story better, but come on, live action sailboards could be the next hover boards!
2. Atlantis: The Lost Empire – There is a certain segment of the population that remembers this film fondly. Underwater exploration, cool tattoos… It could look really good if it went live action.
1. The Black Cauldron – Yes, the 1980s version of this film is not very good, but that was in the days before everyone was trying to get a franchise going. Disney now has the possibility of making 3 or 4 films based on Lloyd Alexander’s high fantasy book series, which means that the films should be less of a mess than the animated version. This story could be awesome and create a longer lasting revenue stream for the House of the Mouse. It could also create Disney’s scariest villain since Chernabog.
